Best Picture winner Parasite to Stream Exclusively on Hulu from April 8

Parasite made history in the 2020 Oscars after it won 4 awards beating a ton of other acclaimed movies. Now, the much-appreciated movie is finally coming to people’s homes with Hulu. There has been much debate about which streaming service will carry the movie, with questions flooding Twitter. And people finally have the answer!

Hulu has an overall deal with Neon, the studio which has the North American distribution rights of Parasite. Thus, the streaming service has also landed the rights to I, Tonya, Three Identical Strangers, The Beach Bum, and Honeyland. The two struck a deal back in 2017.

Parasite is a thriller/dark comedy that exposes the socio-economic inequalities in South Korea. It follows an impoverished family who infiltrates a wealthy household. All seems well at first, until they stumble upon a secret darker than anything they have witnessed. It is one of the highest-rated films of 2019 and gave director Bong Joon-ho four awards – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. Moreover, Parasite made history by being the first film by a South Korean director to win an Oscar, that too with a primarily Asian cast. It was competing against Joker, Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Marriage Story, Little Women, 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Jojo Rabbit.

However, Hulu is only available in the United States right now and questions are now strife as to where Parasite will stream internationally. On the other hand, Disney CEO Bob Iger told investors recently that the company, which controls a major stake in Hulu, will release the service internationally starting in 2021. Nevertheless, there hasn’t been any concrete news as of yet.
