So the new year is here and with it, the inevitable sales and promotional offers too are abundant. Almost every major online retailer has a Republic Day sale going on right now and people looking to buy a new laptop- we’ve got something for all of you.

Here, we will be listing the laptops we’d purchase if we wanted an upgrade during this Republic Day Sale.

    Asus ROG Strix GL503

With some hefty sales underway, tech enthusiasts are no doubt combing through the many available online stores, on the lookout for the best tech piece of tech at a price they can afford. Well then, here’s a small recommendation for those out there, to help their search. Presenting the Asus ROG Strix GL503, a powerhouse of machine, within a reasonable budget ofcourse.

The reason for the pick, well, I personally prefer a PC with some raw power under the hood, and while there are obviously more powerful options out there, money doesn’t grow on trees (it does technically come from trees though). And thus for me, complimenting those confines, is this laptop right here.

Here’s a quick rundown of its specifications:

    • 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5-8300H Processor 2.3 GHz (8M Cache, up to 3.9 GHz) 8th Gen processor
    • 8GB DDR4 2666 RAM
    • 1TB 5400rpm hard drive
    • 1920 X 1080 15.6-inch screen
    • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Graphics

The 1050 Ti is a solid GPU that is capable of running the latest games, at, at least, medium settings. The display is quite impressive, sporting an excellent 130 percent SRGB color gamut and 120hz refresh rate. The laptop also features a special advance cooling system that is capable of automatically adjusting fan speeds so that the laptop is able to maintain an optimal temperature for CPU and GPU. Intake vents situated above the keyboard and under the chassis improve airflow into the system, while the trapezoid-cut lid design allows hot exhaust to flow freely out of the air tunnels at the rear.

The laptop retails for Rs. 90,000 which is a decent price for the aforementioned specifications. It’s a bit heavy, weighing in at about 2.6Kg which definitely hampers the portability though being on the heavier side is generally the rule for gaming laptops.

So, all in all, the Asus ROG Strix GL503 provides a great experience for a decent price and really, when you’re on the lookout for a new gadget, that’s the best you could get.

    Dell XPS 13 Core i5 8th Gen

    Dell XPS

Looking for a good laptop to invest in this new year? The Dell XPS 13 is here to fulfill all your requirements. The company claimed this laptop to be one of the fastest laptops in its class. The XPS 13 with its 8th-gen Core i5 is as fast as most 8th-gen Core i7 laptops.

Made with the intent of high-speed processing and multitasking, this laptop has a lot to its design that’s worthy of your attention. It has a full HD LED back-lit infinity edge anti-glare display. It also comes with a fingerprint reader that provides you with a secure, password-free sign-in, and backlit keyboard that makes it convenient to work even when there’s no light. The laptop is also quite thin and light which makes it highly portable. Apart from that, an Intel Core i5 8th Gen processor, 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and 256 GB of PCle Solid State Drive help this laptop put up a supercharged performance even while multitasking.

Even though this laptop seems to be among the top laptops right now, it does have certain drawbacks. The HD webcam is placed at the bottom of the screen which might be a little unconventional and annoying for some users. It also misses the extra touch screen functionality. Another thing that may lead to the disappointment of the users are the port selections. Most of them have been replaced by a USB-C type, which again is highly unconventional as of now.

Overall, the laptop gives a great bang for the buck and would be a good investment, especially with its new upcoming model in 2019 which gets rid of most of the previous flaws.

    Overview:

The Asus VivoBook S510 is an ideal combination of portability and performance that boasts a premium design while also being light on the pocket.

Packing the 8th Gen i5-8250U, an Nvidia GeForce MX150 and 8GB of DDR4 RAM this laptop is no slouch in the performance department. Day-to-day tasks like browsing and media consumption are handled effortlessly by the machine but what’s better is that it can even manage to play most modern games at 1080p albeit at lower graphics presets.

Design is where this laptop has an edge over its competition, screaming premium all around. The brushed metallic finish chassis might be made of plastic but it can’t be discerned by the naked eye. The notebook offers a 15-inch 1080p display but fits in the body of a 13-inch, owing to its slim bezels. To top that off, and it even offers a backlit keyboard which is a rare commodity in this price segment.

    Pros:

    • Affordable
    • Sleek Design
    • Excellent Thermals
    • Good price-to-performance ratio
    • Backlit keyboard
    • IPS Display

    Cons:

    • Somewhat flimsy body
    • Brightness on the lower end
    • Mediocre battery performance
    • Fans are rather loud

    Acer Predator Helios 300 (i7, GTX 1060)

With an i7-8750H and a GTX 1060 under the hood, the Acer Predator Helios 300 makes for a great value purchase. Having used a predator laptop in the past, I can say for certain that it’s one hell of a beast (under a budget).

The Helios 300 comes in various models, starting from a core i5 coupled with a budget GTX 1050Ti to the highest end model that we’ve chosen. While the 1050Ti is fairly decent for a 1080p 30fps experience, it’s the 1060 model which crushes most games in that resolution. Combine that with 6 gigs of dedicated VRAM and an i7-8750H processor, which turbo boosts up to 4.1GHz by the way, it’s fair to say that you won’t notice any performance stutters.

The keyboard has an in-built backlight to help you on those midnight LAN sessions. Coming to the I/O, there are 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.0 port and a USB Type-C port for future proofing. Then there’s the ethernet port, a headphone/mic jack and an SD card reader, making it ideal for the media enthusiast in you.

When it comes to storage, all the model come with a standard 1TB hard drive, as well as a 128GB SSD on which the OS is installed. It might look meager, but it gets the job done. As for memory, there’s 16GB of RAM available on this model, so expect no memory bottlenecking when opening all those Chrome tabs. However, the screen is where it kinda tanks. With a full HD 15.6″ screen, the peak brightness just never goes high enough. We suggest you use an external monitor for media production if the need ever arises.

    MSI Best Laptops

If I had to buy a laptop during the ongoing Republic Day sale, I would go for the MSI GV Series available at a discount of about 30 percent cutting down the price to INR 89,990. Being a gaming laptop, it packs in some great specs for the price and beats almost all the competition in this price range.

The MSI GV Series laptop is powered by an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, paired with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU with 6 GB of GDDR5 memory which is a great combination for FHD gaming and will make sure the user has a seamless gaming experience on almost every title at 1080p resolution.

The laptop has a 15.6-inch 1080p display panel and built-in quad speakers (4 x 2W). It comes with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, which practically removes any requirement of RAM upgrades for quite some time. For storage, it has a 1 TB HDD along with a 128 GB SSD. I/O includes almost every major port one could ever need, one USB 3.1 Type C (2nd Gen), two USB 3.1 Type A (1st Gen), one USB 2.0 Type A, one HDMI port, Headphone jack, and a 3-in-1 card reader, and Ethernet.

Design wise, the laptop looks sleek and isn’t at all bulky (weighing in at 2.2 kg) like most of the other gaming laptops. This kind of design profile allows purposes other than just gaming.

So there it is, these are the laptops we’d buy if we had to, during the ongoing Republic Day sale.
