Asus has plans to take the wraps off of the Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip on May 12. Days ahead of its launch we have a sneak peek into some renders and specification leaks so we know what to look out for in Asus’s latest smartphone lineup. Should you be excited?

    Zenfone 8 Flip

The Zenfone 8 Flip will be the top-boss of the line-up with a flipping camera module just like the earlier Zenfone 6 and 7 line-up. The module will house a triple camera set-up consisting of a 64MP primary, 12MP telephoto and a rather redundant 12MP macro unless the macro is really good. The camera-flip trick will especially be a plus point given that it would allow you to take selfies and attend video calls using the considerably better rear array of cameras.

The single set of camera set off camera doubles up to perform front camera tasks on the Zenfone 8 Flip, making a front camera sensor unnecessary. This frees up essential screen real estate providing a true full-screen experience devoid of notches or punch-holes. The display will consist of a 6.67″ FullHD+ 90Hz AMOLED screen and also have a biometric fingerprint sensor under the display.

The Zenfone 8 Flip is powered by Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. For power, it will rely on a substantial 5000mAh battery and will support 30W fast charge.

Zenfone 8 Flip will be offered in 2 colour variants and will weigh in somewhere around a healthy 230 grams.

The Zenfone 8 in comparison is a vanilla model which eliminates the flip-camera and settles for a more traditional design. However, this doesn’t do justice to the potent hardware inside, as it retains the powerful Snapdragon 888 from Qualcomm. This SoC is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Reports also say that an extended lineup with 6GB, 12GB and 16GB variants with up to 256GB internal storage can also be expected.

The Zenfone 8 will be using a smaller 5.92″ FullHD+ screen and will house the selfie camera on the top left corner through a punch hole. At the back, the camera set-up will consist of a dual-sensor module with a 64MP main and 12MP macro camera. The Zenfone 8 will power itself from a 4000mAh battery and will fast charge via a Type-C port at 30W. The Zenfone 8 also retains the 3.5mm headphone jack at the top. It tips the scale at 170grams and will come in 2 shades of colour.
