Asus Zenfone series is primarily known for providing top-of-the-line specs without breaking the bank. Asus, today, announced the successor to Zenfone 6 — Asus Zenfone 7 and the 7 Pro.

Even the Asus Zenfone 6, or as it was called Asus Zenfone 6Z in India, was one of the best (yet underrated) smartphones of 2019. It was quite popular among the tech community, mostly cause it ditched a notch or hole-punch cutout, in favour of the flip camera module. The device (Asus Zenfone 6Z) even made to our best flagship killer list.

It’s the talk of the town – yet again! Asus has retained the ‘all-screen NanoEdge display’ on the front by skipping out on the 2020 trend of cutting a hole in the display. Screen size has been bumped up from 6.4-inches to 6.67-inches on both the Zenfone 7 and the 7 Pro. It’s a Full-HD+ OLED 90Hz refresh rate display, ditching the LCD display of Zenfone 6. One notable feature is that the display has a touch sampling rate of 200Hz, which is higher as compared to 180Hz on the OnePlus 8 Pro.

With the Zenfone 7, Asus is getting rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack, to make space for the big-fat 5,000 mAh battery. Coupled with 18W fast-charging, the new Zenfone should last an entire day, even when using 90Hz refresh rate. One key difference between the Zenfone 7 and the 7 Pro is that the latter supports 30W fast-charging. Both the phones come with side-mounted capacitive fingerprint readers.

In the heart of both the phones is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus, although it’s clocked at 2.4GHz on the Zenfone 7 and 3.1GHz on 7 Pro. The standard Zenfone 7 comes with 6 or 8GB of RAM, while the Pro model includes 8GB. The storage is capped at 128GB for both the phones, but it still retains the MicroSD card slot that can boost the storage to up to 2TB.

    Let’s Talk About Those Cameras

The Flip Camera module houses a triple-camera setup which comprises of a main 64MP Sony IMX686 image sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens and OIS, a wide-angle 12MP Sony IMX363 image sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and a tertiary 8MP image sensor with an f/2.4 aperture, for zoom capabilities. OIS is available only on the 7 Pro, though. The camera flips round 180 degrees to act as your selfie camera setup, giving you the crisp quality of a main Sony shooter for the front.

    Pricing and Release Date

Asus Zenfone 7 is one of those phones in which there aren’t many differences between the base and the Pro models, which isn’t really the case with smartphones these days (yes, I’m pointing at you Samsung). The new Zenfone series will come in Aurora Black and Pastel White colors. The Non-Pro Zenfone 7 Model is priced at 21,990 TWD (~ Rs. 55,000) and the Pro model is priced at 27,990 TWD (~ Rs. 70,500).

The phones will first go on sale in Taiwan starting August 26, and is expected to launch in India very soon.
