Assassin’s Creed has been one of the leakiest franchises we have around. It seems like every year that an installment of Ubisoft’s prime franchise gets leaked early. Now, 2 days before the publisher’s E3 showcase, an in-studio interview has leaked online (courtesy of Reddit) showcasing everything you can imagine. Be it the story, the characters, the time period, every little detail that Ubisoft was going to unveil at E3 is now public knowledge. Here is what we know about Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Setting & Time Period
The game will take place in the year 431 BC, during the Peloponnesian War. It was an ancient Greek war fought between the Delian League (Athens) and Peloponnesian League (Sparta). According to the leaked screenshots and gameplay, you will be assisting the Spartans.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will be the first game since Syndicate to feature multiple protagonists, although not in the way you would expect them to be. You can choose between playing as Alexios or Kassandra. It was revealed that choosing either of them will result in you experiencing the same story, for the most part.
Both of them come from the same Spartan background, raised as Spartan warriors. After a family feud, we pick up with them 17 years after they have trained to embark on a new…wait for it…odyssey. What’s interesting is that both of them are descendants of the First Civilisation bloodline. That should be an interesting thread to unravel. Coming to the modern day, Layla returns (obviously)! There won’t be any assassin’s or templars as we know them, but the very ideology of free will vs. controlled order will be present.
Play The Way You Want
Odyssey will be the first game in the franchise to include dialogue options. While this does raise a doubt since all of these games mostly try to work within a historical framework, it’ll be interesting, to say the least. It’s been said that the major historical events will pan out the same way as they have in recorded manuscripts, but the choices you make will be personal in nature. It will affect your story, not the over-arching narrative.
Naval Exploration Returns!
Much like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the game will have ship-based exploration and combat aspects. And just like that game, it’ll be seamless. After all, the whole of Greece can only be visited around with water-based navigation. You’ll be able to upgrade your ship as well as recruit crew. Exploring the Aegean Sea will be a rewarding experience.
In a first for the series, you can now partake in massive battles and control your army against your opponents. Very Spartan indeed.
The Release Date
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey comes out on October 5th on PC, X-Box One, PS4 and their upgraded versions.
