Apple has been under scrutiny for the apparent slowdown of its previous generation iPhone. The reason behind the same is pretty obvious. Apple wanted to push its users to buy newer models. However, it seems like it has become a hard pill to swallow for Apple.
The class-action settlement pending approval by U.S. District Judge Edward Davila in San Jose, California was revealed on Friday. According to it, Apple Inc has agreed to pay $500 Million to settle the lawsuit of iPhone slowdown.

Apple might not need to pay the full $500 Million amount, though. The settlement amount comes to 25$ per iPhone, so the total amount might depend on the number of eligible devices. The minimum payout is, however, $310 million.
The people who will benefit are the U.S. owners of the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7Plus or SE running iOS 10.2.1 or later. Apart from that, U.S. owners of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus that ran iOS 11.2 or later before Dec. 21, 2017 are also eligible. While users claimed that performance deteriorated after software updates, Apple told a different story.
Apple blamed temperature changes, high usage, and other issues for the slowdown of iPhones. Moreover, Apple told its engineers worked quickly to address those issues. But as per court papers, Apple is undertaking the settlement to avoid burdens and costs of litigation.
