Apple has announced new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition. This news came as no surprise considering the same special edition iPhone 7 models were announced around the same time last year. These red coloured models signifies Apple’s joint effort in fighting HIV and AIDS in Africa alongside (PRODUCT)RED. An unspecified portion of proceeds from the sales of these phones will go to the charity. All (PRODUCT)RED purchases help provide testing, counselling and treatment for millions of people affected by HIV/AIDS.
The (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 and 8 Plus has a beautiful glass enclosure with a matching aluminium band and a black front unlike last year’s iPhone 7 that sported a white front panel.
It’ll be available to purchase online from 10th April and will hit the stores starting 13th April. Pricing remains the same as the normal variants, starting at $699 for 64GB iPhone 8 and $799 for 64GB iPhone 8 Plus.
“This special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone features a stunning red and black color combination and also offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing. “iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus improve on everything we love about iPhone, including Retina HD displays that are more beautiful than ever, the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone with the A11 Bionic and more advanced cameras for unbelievable photos and videos. We are proud to support (RED) with this bold new iPhone and hope customers think it is as special as we do.”
Apart from this, Apple also introduced something for iPhone X users, a new (PRODUCT)RED iPhone X Leather Folio. The folio is made using specially tanned and finished Europeanleather for a luxurious look and feel. It’ll also be available to purchase from 10th April.
