The 7 nanometer based AMD Zen 2 processors will be unveiled soon and we’ve just received some details on a sample engineering chip. The rumor comes from a well known member of the HardOCP forums who has great reputation when it comes to AMD leaks.

The reason why AMD RTG (Radeon Technologies Group) have the sample this early is because of changes to the interconnect which requires RTG to make adjustments for their drivers.

According to the rumor the Zen 2 CPU, which is a part of the third generation Ryzen family, will feature 8 cores and 16 threads. The chip features a base clock speed of 4GHz and a boost clock speed of 4.5GHz.

It was also mentioned that since the chip is a very early sample, it crashes a lot currently. The chip crashed so often that the testing had to be done multiple times to complete otherwise it just crashed before the test finished.
