    AMD’s CES 2020 Keynote mostly comprised of the Ryzen 4000 laptops. However, the one thing that stood out in the entire show was the Threadripper 3990X. The 64-core beast got a price reveal at the event, along with subtle hints about the power it packs under the hood. With still a week to go for launch, we have finally had some more benchmarks for the upcoming processor.

    The latest benchmark comes from SiSoftware’s database, which has a pretty renowned bench-marking tool. When compared to the Intel Xeon W-3175X, the Threadripper seems to be way ahead in the equation while being $1000 more expensive. In Processor Arithmetic Benchmark, the 3990X scores 1786.22GOPS as compared to the 1001.78GOPS. In multi-media performance, a segment where the Threadripper is likely to benefit a lot of thanks to its 64C/128T, we see a score of 5403.83Mpix/s as compared to 4390.17Mpix/s. To no surprise, the Threadripper obliterates the W-3175X in multi-core performance as well, with a score of 463.33GB/s, almost twice of Intel’s 240.95GB/s.

    With the launch of the Threadripper 3990X, Intel’s dominance in the processor segment keeps on receding. While Intel has been slashing prices in the past to make their processors more relevant in the past, it seems like this time mere price cuts won’t do the trick. The jaw-dropping performance of the 3990X keeps on making things difficult for Intel. With Comet Lake round the corner, it will be interesting to see how things pan out for the blue side. Till then, it seems like Team Red will continue to assert their dominance.

    1. Seriously? You’re comparing a 28/56 core CPU with a 64/128 core CPU. Of course it’s going to lose. Please make a better article next time.

      • We compared the processors based on the price-point. Most comparisons are with the dual 8280 which cost close to $20000, which is a pointless comparison.
