AMD’s decision to release both the Ryzen 3000 processors as well as the Radeon RX 5700 Navi GPUs might have been a bad move as from I can tell the latter is getting shadowed by the Zen 2 mainstream launch. Still, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t competitive. In this post, we have a look at the performance of the RX 5700 lineup and decide if you should go for NVIDIA’s recent Super cards or the former.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 vs NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super

Well, it seems like my prediction was on point. The Radeon RX 5700 tackles the GeForce RTX 2060 Super while the 5700 XT is sandwiched between the RTX 2070 and the 2070 Super. Furthermore, the 5700 costs 4-5K (INR) less than the 2060 S, all the while being every bit as able. I don’t really see a future where NVIDIA doesn’t drop the price of the latter, as otherwise it effectively becomes redundant. No one should pay another $50 for ray-tracing just quite yet, as we’ve yet to see most of the promised titles hit the market. The situation might, however, change in the future.

However, if the RTX 2060 S is pushed down to $349, the entire lineup will have to be adjusted accordingly. This means the RTX 2060 will also get a lower price tag, and possibly the GTX 1660 Ti too. In the higher end space, the RTX 2070 and its Super variant also need to have their prices adjusted in order to stay competitive and I expect the RTX 2070 to fall into the sub-$400 range while the RTX 2070 Super will probably cost around $450. Naturally, this means that the GeForce RTX 2080 will also become cheaper but the 2080 Super most likely won’t see much of a change as it operates in the RTX 2080 Ti territory.

If you look at the Radeon VII, it more or less seems like the black sheep of the bunch with performance almost on par with the 5700 XT, while costing a whole lot more. I expect AMD to either discontinue it or make it more affordable to further pressurize NVIDIA.

    Thermals and TDP

The power draw of the Navi cards is rather impressive thanks to the efficient 7nm node. The Radeon RX 5700 draws less power than the RTX 2060 all the while being significantly faster. On the other hand, the 5700 XT has the same power consumption as the RTX 2070 while being a better performer. This is the first time in years that AMD GPUs are as efficient as their GeForce counterparts.

    Conclusion: Super?

AMD essentially baited NVIDIA into launching a beefed-up Turing refresh right before Navi and then back-stabbed them by lowering the prices, making it a must for green team to do the same. This is the first time the GPU market has been this competitive. The same goes for the CPU space, courtesy of Ryzen. Good times!

    1. Ofc the Rtx 2060 super is 50$ more but it makes less noise, has better thermal and overall better build quality.

    2. Misleading Title. The Rx 5700 is not faster then RTX 2060 SUPER. But actually the RX 5700 sits below RTX 2060 SUPER and above RTX 2060. Check all credible reviews on you tube as well its same, Rx 5700 is below rtx 2060 super variant. And the Rx 5700xt beats 2060super and 2070 but looses out to rtx 2070super
