The Wall Street Journal has reported that Nintendo plans to introduce a new model of its Switch console in the second half of 2019, possibly during the summer. The Journal cites “suppliers and others with direct knowledge of the plan”.
The outlet reports that the new version is an attempt by Nintendo to boost the sales momentum of the console which have fallen off since the console’s launch. They are also still deciding what hardware and software features to include in the new model and whether the costs would be worth it. One improvement that could be seen is an upgrade to the system’s LCD screen to make it more in-line with recent smartphone screens and as such make it brighter, thinner and more energy efficient.
The new model is said to likely be compatible with all current Switch software and share features with the original model.
